“Is making this app even worth it?” was the question our capstone group kept asking ourselves when we first brainstormed the idea of developing a mobile application in Capstone I. We found ourselves aiming towards developing a mobile application that would aid adults in preparing nutritional meals regardless of any kind of food restrictions they possessed. Especially since studies show that approximately 4% of Americans have food allergies, costing the U.S. $25 billion annually (Reinburg, 2017). However, full of ambition, our team comprised of three students with both a long friendship history and different academic backgrounds, decided to pursue the project head first, naming the app, Nutri-List.
Capstone I, essentially became a four month long class geared specifically towards conducting comprehensive research on the topic of nutrition and why it’s so important in our day to day health. Twenty seven pages later, our literature review was full of peer reviewed articles, conducted research results, and the potential impacts our application could make if successful. Finally, our capstone group came to the conclusion that Nutri-List, would be a comprehensive nutrition app that would work by providing a list of both healthy non-allergen specific food recipes and healthy allergen specific food recipes by according to the user's dietary preference and allergy information.
Now that our capstone company is known as Nutria, committed to creating easier paths to a healthier lifestyle by bringing the knowledge of healthy eating and lifestyle practices through easy access apps in order to work alongside even the busiest of schedules. Nutria’s most current premier app, Nutri-List, wouldn’t have been able to continue being developed in Capstone II without the aid of our superb Capstone I teacher, Ms. DeCloux, who helped our comprehensive research. Nutria must also thank our list of mentors in our professional network who are willing to help us in any way they can. To conclude Nutria’s first blog post on a positive note, Nutria is remains ambitious towards the completion of the Nutri-List app and is working steadfast on making it as effective as possible.
